Jack Brabham is one of the great names in Motor Racing history and Formula One having a stellar career as a driver, winning the World Championships three times in 1959, 1960 and 1966. In 1966 he became the first man ever to win the Formula One World Championship in a car bearing his own name.
Certainly among the most competitive small sports racers, it is with good reason that the BT8 is so sought after. In addition to dominating its competition, the BT8 is beautiful, rare, and a pleasure to use.
Only 12 examples were ever built what makes this exceptionally rare. This is the last ever BT8 and only car made in 1966. This BT8 SC-1-66 was built for John Willment who ran one of the UK's biggest Ford dealerships. Tony Dean & Peter Crossley drove the car in 1967 - Richard Thwaites in 1974 -Don Orosco in mid-1980's and finally purchased by Robert McClenagan in 1997.
Originally developed for the 2-liter Coventry Climax engine, some BT8’s were fitted with 2.5 liter Coventry Climax such as this one and having a Hewland Transaxle that Shifts and performs smoothly. This represented significant advances over their predecessors in the departments of handling and braking, and represent what can generally be considered the pinnacle of four cylinder sports racer development, prior to the widespread arrival of 8-cylinder cars.
The frame and suspension are exceptional in their condition and originality. Not to mention this vehicle comes with complete set of body molds that were represented as the original “Brabham” molds based on the condition and quality we believe this might actually be true.
