Before and immediately following WW II, Oldsmobile may have had a reputation for building sturdy and very well engineered, if not exciting cars, but all that changed with the release of the new Futuramic models for 1948. Featuring modern, Harley Earl-directed styling and clear design cues inspired by Lockheeds sleek P-38 Lightning fighter plane of wartime fame, the low-slung new Oldsmobiles rode on a new X-member frame and four-wheel coil-spring suspension providing impressive ride and handling quality for the era. For 1949 through 1951, Oldsmobile dominated NASCAR competition with its all-new Rocket OHV V-8 engine and its V-8 road models delivered impressive power and speed as arguably the first muscle cars produced. GMs renowned 4-speed Hydra-Matic automatic transmission was improved and made standard equipment on the top-of-the-line 98 models by 1949. Oldsmobile sales grew rapidly as a direct result of these welcome developments and record sales resulted by 1950.

This amazingly well preserved and original 1950 Oldsmobile 98 Sedan is a fabulous example of these important postwar American automobiles. From the Charles Cawley collection it is simply gorgeous throughout, it features virtually flawless black paint and a completely original interior trimmed in grey broadcloth. Just 36K miles are accumulated from new. Factory features and options include an AM radio, sun visor, day/night mirror, plus GMs famed 4-speed Hydra-Matic automatic transmission and of course, the 303 cubic-inch Oldsmobile Rocket V-8 engine. Simply stunning and beautifully preserved inside and out, this 1950 Oldsmobile 98 Sedan is immensely collectible on every possible level as one of the best-engineered and most important American cars of the postwar era.
