Debuted at Geneva in 1963, the 'W113' series Mercedes-Benz 230SL replaced both the 300SL and 190SL and ushered in the company's new single-platform sports car policy. Paul Bracq penned the new SL's body design, including its sturdy Pagoda style removable hardtop, and Bela Barenyi engineered the new SL's industry-leading built-in safety features. Development was overseen by legendary Mercedes-Benz personnel including Technical Director Fritz Nallinger, Chief Engineer Rudolf Uhlenhaut, and Head of Styling Friedrich Geiger. Models progressed through the 2.5-liter 250SL, which introduced 4-wheel disc brakes, to the final 2.8-liter 280SL produced from November 1967 to February 1971. Delivering more power, torque, and driving flexibility than its predecessors, the 280SL benefited from a wide array of updates and improvements, making a great design even better. Today, the 280SL stands as the most popular and enjoyable evolution of the celebrated Pagoda SL line. For the 1969 model year, 8,047 were produced, including this wonderful survivor.
Beautifully finished in Silver over the original Red interior, this 1969 Mercedes-Benz 280SL is a two-owner example from new with 57,052 actual miles at the time of writing.
