1971 Mercedes-Benz 280 SE 3.5. Extremely rare and desirable convertible model in light blue with a dark blue leather interior and wood trim. This 3.5 was a well maintained, rust-free car that recently underwent a high quality full exterior and interior restoration. The paint surface is very straight and has been refinished to a deep luster. A new convertible top has been installed and a new boot and boot sleeve are also with the vehicle. Flawless brand new upholstery and dark burled wood trim adorn the interior, and the gauges and running gear are in like new condition. The factory original Becker radio has been retained. While this car certainly looks and drives like the indicated 20k miles, we are unable to verify those as correct. However, we have restored and inspected many of these cars, and as such have found no evidence of rust or corrosion in known problem areas of these cars, indicating to us fastidious previous ownership. This 280 SE is optioned with the desirable floor shift automatic and chrome wheel surrounds. A factory original toolkit is also included. Introduced late in the 1969 model year, the 3.5 coupe and convertible were sold through 1971. All 3.5s are equipped with the low grille. The radiator grilles size and position were changed from the original 1961 220SE design, making it 100 millimeters wider and placing it 70 mm lower. This small change modernizes the front end, giving it more pleasing proportions, and a much more modern look than the earlier high grille cars. These were hand-finished cars built in low volumes due to their high price (about twice as much as the next-generation 1970 250C six-cylinder coupe and about the same as the monster 300SEL 6.3 sedans). With only 1,232 3.5-liter open cars built, they are rarer than the legendary 300SL Gullwing. Our 280 SE is a magnificent luxury automobile. Start the 3.5L V8 and you are quickly greeted with a smooth idle and broad power band. The floor shift automatic is right at arm's reach, and easily moves through the gates. The suspension is graceful and pliant, indicative of the Benz's luxury heritage. Raising and lowering the convertible top is smooth and easy and the interior is both fresh and clean. As with all of our vehicles, this 280 SE 3.5 has been inspected and prepared to our highest TLD standards. If you have any questions, please feel free to call us.
