With lineage dating back to 1940, the go-anywhere, do-anything Jeep (a derivation of GP = General Purpose) is undoubtedly one of the most important and successful motor vehicles ever produced. When Allied victory was all but assured in 1944, Willys-Overland began development of the CJ Civilian Jeep, in preparation for a postwar return to civilian auto production. A constant in an ever-changing world, the CJ was relentlessly developed, improved and virtually perfected through successive generations under four corporate parents including Willys, Kaiser, American Motors (AMC) and ultimately Chrysler in 1987. Developed and initially sold under AMC, just prior to Chryslers 1987 acquisition of the company, the redesigned Jeep Wrangler YJ marked a revolution with new styling and enhanced on-road performance while retaining the Jeeps legendary off-road capabilities. While only mildly restyled, the 1997-2006 Jeep Wrangler TJ was comprehensively updated where it counted most underneath, delivering better riding characteristics, lower noise, and greater passenger comfort.
Sold new by Kelly Jeep of Emmaus, Pennsylvania, this 2004 Jeep Wrangler X is a top-quality example of these renowned Jeep models. Finished in Light Khaki Metallic over a Khaki interior, it features power by the renowned Jeep Power Tech 4.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine rated at 190 HP for great on- or off-road performance in concert with an extra-cost optional 4-speed automatic transmission, 3.73:1 axle ratio and on-demand 4-wheel drive with Command-Track 4WD transfer case. This Jeeps many standard features include gas-charged shock absorbers and skid plates for the gas tank and transfer case, plus front and rear sway bars, Halogen headlamps and a useful gauge cluster including a tachometer. The highly versatile interior is ready for road or trail use alike, with driving pleasure enhanced by an AM/FM stereo with CD player and CD changer. A tilt steering wheel, light-tinted windshield, Halogen headlamps, full padded Sports Bar and HD battery and alternator make this Jeep Wrangler X ready for virtually any adventure.
Factory options are equally numerous, including the Convenience Group with courtesy and underhood lighting and a full-length floor console, the $985 Wheel Plus Group added a full set of Ecco aluminum wheels and tires plus a mounted full-size spare, along with 7 stereo speakers including subwoofer. Air conditioning, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, cruise control, full metal doors with roll-up windows and Dark Khaki soft top round out the Jeeps awesome combination standard and optional features.
