With the debut of the new-for-1938 model year, Ford offered a restyled passenger-car line and a new marketing approach that would continue through 1940. In addition to offering its Standard and DeLuxe models, that differed in their trim and passenger amenities, Ford now gave these two distinct car lines noticeably different bodies. Standard models would continue with the styling of the prior 1937 models, while the 1938 DeLuxe models were given a fresh new exterior design. Frontal styling for the 1938 DeLuxe Fords featured a pointed nose treatment suggestive of luxury yachts, a winning motif courtesy of Ford stylist Bob Gregorie, a former New York yacht designer, working in conjunction with Edsel Ford.
Formerly part of the noted collection of Early Ford V-8 enthusiast Ron Thorne for nearly 17 years, this handsome 1938 Ford DeLuxe Club Coupe was acquired by him during the mid-2000s from a fellow collector resident in Harvard, Illinois. As offered, it continues to benefit from an award winning restoration that made it a steady presence in AACA judged events and culminated in Senior National First Prize honors in 1993 and the Senior Grand National Award in 1997.
Finished in Black paint, the sleek Ford is complemented by artillery-style steel wheels and proper chrome and brightwork. Trimmed in Tan cloth upholstery, the high-end DeLuxe interior is inviting and well equipped, featuring a rich faux wood grain finish to the dash, plus a "Banjo" steering wheel, updated turn signals, a glovebox-mounted clock, and working OEM radio. Ample power is delivered by the legendary Mechanically sound, as the 85-horsepower Ford "Flathead" V-8 engine and three-speed manual transmission, with both having been well-maintained under Mr. Thorne's lengthy stewardship. Accompanying items include a spare tire and jack, a tool kit with a selection of Ford tools, and an original 1938 Ford reference book. Be sure to contact us today to see this wonderfully presented 1938 Ford DeLuxe Club Coupe for yourself and prepare to add it to your collection of one to many great classics in time for spring and summer showing and enjoyment!
