1948 Chrysler New Yorker. Finished in a deep Royal Maroon with a stunning and complementary Highlander Plaid interior. This 48 New Yorker is mostly original, and was refinished to a very high quality in the original factory color. A southern California car until very recently, it remains in excellent solid condition. The exterior paint is in great condition, and the chrome bumpers are magnificent and free of pitting. This 48 has been totally reupholstered including the seats, carpeting, headliner, and more. The interior is clean and has since been well kept in great condition. The engine compartment is clean and fresh, and the underside remains solid and presentable. This New Yorker retains the original straight-8 engine, Fluid-Drive coupled 4 speed Presto-Matic transmission, heater, and clock, and has fresh factory correct Wide White tires. The original owners manual is also with the car. This is a true and distinctive classic! The New Yorker Special luxury package was originally introduced as a distinct sub-series of the 1938 Chrysler Imperial. The package's popularity caused the car to become its own model for 1939. Due to the tensions of war in Europe, and the later rubber and steel war rations of 1941, Chrysler ceased production of its cars to civilians. After restarting operations a few years earlier, 1947-48 saw a minor redesign in tires, trim, and the instrument panel. The New Yorker shows its Chrysler luxury heritage through and through. A large ornate steering wheel greets you, and starting the car via the chrome ignition button reveals a burbling straight-8 that offers an excellent ride. All the interior controls and switches are right before you in the chrome trimmed center panel. The interior seats are plush and soft, and the column mounted Fluid-Drive semi-automatic transmission offers smooth and effortless shifting.
