When Hudson announced its new cars for 1948, the company beat the Big Three to market with all-new postwar models that totally revolutionized the automotive industry. Known as the 'Step Down' models on account of their dropped floor pans, these new Hudsons were low, sleek and handled exceptionally well. Hudson's big six-cylinder engines were among the finest of their day, being highly tunable, enabling the company to totally dominate NASCAR racing during the early 1950s. For 1950, Hudson added a new shorter-wheelbase Pacemaker model to the range and with its up-to-the-minute styling and agile road manners, proved immediately successful.
According to known history, this very well presented 1950 Hudson Pacemaker Sedan was acquired by renowned Hudson collector Gene Davis in the mid-1950s from a Hudson dealer in Charleston, Illinois. As the proprietor of Davis Restoration, later with his son Chris, Gene Davis earned a reputation for finding and either restoring or preserving exceptional Hudson models. This first-year Pacemaker is no exception, having been retained and beautifully maintained by Mr. Davis and then eventually passed on to his son, Chris, who carried on the tradition until a well-known Illinois Hudson collector purchased it in 2017.
In addition to some light paintwork during the 1960s in the original Legion Blue, the interior remains largely original and features a beautifully wood-grained dash. Period correct accessories were added, including Venetian blinds, dual fog lights, back-up lamps, an external sun visor, front and rear bumper guards and dual spotlights, plus a larger-displacement 262 CI engine and rare Twin-H Power dual-carburetor intake system. In 1998, this stellar Pacemaker was awarded AACA National First Prize honors and a Senior Award (# W11105). Just over 75,000 miles are indicated on the odometer. Simply striking throughout and clearly benefiting from outstanding, long-term care, this Legion Blue 1950 Hudson Pacemaker Sedan marks an outstanding opportunity for knowledgeable Hudson collectors and stands as quite likely one of the finest available anywhere. Contact us to see it now and add it to your collection of the greatest postwar automobiles produced!
