ASTON MARTIN DB2/4

1955 DROPHEAD LML829

VANTAGE ENGINE VB6J/384

Between 1953 and 1955 there were a total of 73 dropheads produced. In 1955 only 12 of these were equipped with Vantage engines and left hand drive. These two factors make this beautifully restored Aston Martin a rare find.

The restoration began with a search and discovery of original documents associated with the vehicle. The work was conducted only after verification of originality could be established. Many hours were spent obtaining invaluable information from Kevin Kay. When parts were required Kevin Kay was the supplier. Only then was the restoration performed, 200 miles ago.
The original livery colors of ice blue with oxblood leather are as specified on the factory build sheet. The leather interior is top of the line and makes a strong impression The contrasting dark blue top is of a sta-fast fabric and compliments this very desirable color scheme.

All original gauges are in good working order and the wood dash has been very nicely refinished. The clock reads 35,000 miles but the true mileage is not known. The original radio has been rebuilt and the under dash speaker surround has been restored. The side window glass is original and in nice condition--only the windscreen has been replaced. The distinctive DB2 grill, with it's individually polished vanes, is in amazingly nice original condition. The remainder of the exterior chrome including the bumpers, has been re-chromed. New Vredestein tires were mounted on new 72 spoke, 16 inch chrome wire wheels. Accompanying the car is the original jack and most tools.

Early David Brown Astons are not known for even body gaps and shut lines. That said, this car shows well in both fit and finish. Final clean and detail work was performed by The Last Detail punctuating this restoration with an outstanding visual presentation.

On the road, the factory optional original matching numbers Vantage engine has a distinctive and impressive sound--thanks to the high lift cams. This engine has been comprhensively rebuilt. The gearbox is a non synchronized unit. First gear has the typical David Brown gear whine until all other gearSare selected. The original rebuilt generator replaced with a modern alternator, is included. The engine compartment is very correct, clean and well presented.

Early Aston Martins were a rare sight in 1955 and purchased by owners of note. This car no. 829 was no exception. According to the heritage paper, the original owner was one R.W. Cooper of Washington D.C. Mr. Cooper's address at the time of purchase was the Anchorage Hotel_ Also, at this address were Bobby Kennedy. Tallulah Bankhead, Sam Rayburn, and Charles Lindberg. After Mr. Cooper only three other owners were found.

The DB2 Vantage Drophead is a true classic affording a rare opportunity to acquire an important limited production early Aston.
