Buick traditionally occupied an enviable position within the GM hierarchy by selling prestigious, well equipped, and profitable mid-to-upper level cars. By 1954, record calendar-year production and strong model-year production drove Buick to third place in American sales rankings right behind GM's high-volume Chevrolet and Ford. For the calendar year 1955, Buick production reached an all-time high of nearly 800,000 vehicles, including the one-millionth Buick V-8 engine. Buick's outstanding Nailhead V-8 engine, first available for 1953, continued in its original 322 cubic-inch displacement for 1955. Topped by a Carter four-barrel carburetor and offering higher 9.1:1 compression, the Nailhead V-8 engine now carried a 236-horsepower factory rating. Befitting Buicks top model series, the Roadmaster's standard Dynaflow automatic transmission was upgraded for 1955 with 20 variable-pitch stator blades that either opened fully for quick acceleration or returned to normal position for cruising ease. In addition to improved acceleration and performance, the transmission updates also delivered improved fuel economy for the big Buick.  

While nearly 60,000 Roadmasters were produced in all for 1955, just 4,730 glamorous Model 76C Roadmaster Convertible Coupes were produced, including this stunning restoration, which garnered  the Buick Club of America Senior Award in 2001.
