The improved and updated successor to Jaguar's landmark XK120, the XK140 featured updated styling cues and ushered in several choice improvements, primarily in terms of comfort and usability. Other choice improvements included rack-and-pinion steering and telescopic shock absorbers. According to Jaguar experts, 8,943 examples of the XK140 were produced in all 1954-57, with the top-of-the-line Drophead Coupe (DHC) the rarest among them with 2,793 built. In addition to its snug folding top and roll-up side windows, the XK 140 DHC also featured such luxuries as a standard heater, leather upholstery, and a richly finished walnut dashboard and door caps.

The ultimate XK140 variant was the SE, signifying the desirable Special Equipment option, which included standard wire-spoke wheels, twin fog lights, Laycock overdrive, and a twin-outlet exhaust system. While the XK140 was an already potent performer with its DOHC 3.4-liter 'XK' 6-cylinder engine rated at 190 bhp, an even more powerful 210 bhp engine was available with the "C" type cylinder head and larger 2-inch SU carburetors.

Built on 14 June 1955, this original left-hand drive XK140 SE was factory-finished in Pearl Grey over Red-piped Grey leather upholstery, complemented by a French Grey convertible top. Confirmed by the accompanying Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust (JDHT) certificate, this XK140 SE was factory-fitted with the desirable, high-performance engine, including the "C" type cylinder head and larger carburetors, numbered G 3144-8S, paired to a Laycock overdrive-equipped 4-speed manual transmission. Next, it was dispatched from the Jaguar factory on 30 June 1955 and shipped to the United States via importer Charles Hornburg in Los Angeles, California.  
 
Subsequently, this Jaguar is understood to have been under the long-term care of an Oregon-based owner from 1956-2009 and it was a largely original, unrestored car when that owner sold it on. In 2015, it was sent to the Jaguar specialists at JD Classics in the UK, where it received a sympathetic cosmetic restoration, including a refinish in its original paint color and fitting of new Red upholstery. Following completion, the Jaguar returned to the USA and enjoyed proper collector care. The vehicle remains true to its JDHT certificate and retains its original, numbers-matching engine block and "C" type cylinder head. Documents include restoration records from JD Classics, prior ownership papers, a FIVA Passport (issued in 2015), and a reproduction owner's handbook. An original roadside jack and wheel hammer are also included.
