Following its high-profile debut for 1953, Cadillac's top-of-the-line Eldorado continued for 1954 and 1955 and by 1956, its success spurred the addition of the Eldorado Seville, a sleek two-door hardtop, while the convertible was named Biarritz after the exotic French seaside town. Confirming the market dominance of stylish closed cars and especially the clean pillarless hardtops that emerged during the 1950s, Cadillac introduced its new Series 62 Sedan DeVille four-door hardtop and the Eldorado Seville two-door hardtop on October 24, 1955, almost a month before the rest of its models debuted for 1956.

The Eldorado's already impressive mechanical specifications were refined for 1956, with Cadillac's proprietary V-8 engine given its first displacement increase to 365 cubic inches. The  Eldorado received a specially tuned version topped by dual Carter four-barrel carburetors underneath a stunning 'Batwing' air cleaner, rated at 305 horsepower. GM's famed Hydra-Matic four-speed automatic transmission was standard and benefited from improvements developed at a cost of $35 million for smoother operation. Amenities including power windows and a six-way power front seat were standard. Just 3,900 examples of the Eldorado Seville were manufactured for 1956, priced from a heady $6,501 the equivalent cost for two brand-new Corvettes or Thunderbirds!

This rare and wonderful first-year example of the Cadillac Eldorado Seville is offered in outstanding condition throughout. Under prior ownership, the scarce, originally specified Mountain Laurel paint was refinished and the 1956-only Vicodec top material was replaced. According to known history, this Eldorado Seville is a former California car, once owned by Hollywood actress, producer, and philanthropist Merrie Lynn Ross, whose credits included TV's General Hospital and a wide array of series and films from the 1960s through the early 1980s. According to the vehicle's title, only an approximate 68K original miles have been traveled by the Seville. In addition to its standard power-adjustable front seat mechanism and power windows, this collector-grade Eldorado Seville delivers an enjoyable drive with power brakes and power steering.

In addition to the repaint and top replacement, the Seville benefits from fastidious service and maintenance work. Mechanical work included rebuilt carburetors, new engine and transmission gaskets, and a new radiator, fuel pump, heater core and pinion seal, plus new mufflers and exhaust tips. Cosmetics include new OEM Seville-only sun visors, restored control knobs and gauges, re-chromed bumpers, and new liners for the trunk and rear package tray. Striking factory Saber-Spoke wheels and a set of new tires (including spare) finish this 1950s icon in very fine style.
