Of all the great American automobiles designed and sold during the 1950s, Chevrolet™s Nomad 2-door hardtop station wagons of 1955-57 stand among the most unforgettable of all. Previewed at GM™s popular Motorama traveling roadshows during the 1954 season, the glamorous Nomad™s styling created a sensation and it entered production later that year. Serving as a high-end halo model for Chevrolet™s handsomely styled new passenger cars, the Nomad featured top-of-the-line Bel Air trim and interior appointments, flashy 2-tone color schemes and a wide array of standard and optional features. While Chevy™s tried-and-true 6-cylinder engine was available, most buyers opted for the all-new and powerful small-block V-8 powerplant, displacing 265 cubic inches for 1955-56. Nomad production was quite low, reaching just 8,530 for 1955, 8,103 for 1956, and 6,534 for 1957. The original Nomads have always been considered special cars and they continue to attract plenty of attention from Chevy fans everywhere.
Retaining its iconic original styling, this fabulous 1956 Chevrolet Nomad is highly but subtly customized with the body channeled two inches over the frame for an especially low profile, Shaved emblems and handles enhance the clean look. Other body tweaks include hidden hinges, remote-controlled doors, and a powered rear window. Excellent 2-stage custom paintwork includes Corvette Red Jewel and Mercedes-Benz Silver paint, beautifully complemented by tucked one-piece bumpers and filled cowls. Excellent power is delivered by a modern 5.3L GM fuel-injected V-8 engine equipped with an aluminum intake manifold, GM electronic ignition, Corvette exhaust manifolds and a stainless dual exhaust system including Flowmaster mufflers. A GM 4L60E overdrive automatic transmission sends the power to a Ford 8.8-inch rear end fitted with 3.55:1 gears for a nice combination of strong acceleration with easy freeway cruising. Chassis upgrades are many, including an RBs Obsolete front-frame clip, GM B-Body spindles, tubular upper A-arms, Viking springs, QA1 coilover shocks, and a 4-link rear setup. Brakes are updated with 11-inch Chevrolet discs up front and Ford discs at the rear. A set of 17-inch REV chrome wheels mounting Nitto high-performance tires provides road contact. Trimmed in full custom Grey leather and vinyl upholstery, the Nomad™s interior features power bucket seats with perforated leather, plus a custom steering wheel, tilt column, Camaro instrument cluster, center console with floor shifter, and air conditioning by Vintage Air. Documents include restoration/build photos, a radio manual, and the OEM data tag. Featuring too many updates and upgrades to fully list here, this beautifully customized 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air Nomad stays true to its roots while delivering far better style, comfort, and all-around performance than when it was new.
