As Ford Motor Company celebrated its landmark 50th
anniversary In 1953, the company also looked ahead for the future with the futuristic X-100 and X-500 show cars, both demonstrating Fords fast-growing emphasis on bold Dream Car styling and new passenger amenities and safety features for its production models. A brand new V-8 engine with modern overhead valves put the trusty old flathead into the history books in 1954 and by 1956, the new engine had grown into two basic versions displacing 292 and 312 cubic inches respectively. For 1955, the full-size Ford models were so heavily restyled, they looked all-new, featuring beautiful two-tone paint and interior treatments, attractive new bright trim, and tastefully small tailfins for a totally fresh look. The glamorous Sunliner convertible joined the top-of-the-line Fairlane series for 1955 and proved very popular with buyers that year and again in mildly updated form for 1956. Surviving examples are highly drivable and enjoyable, with plenty of room for friends and family to share the wonderful experience with you.
