FINAL-YEAR EXAMPLE OF THE HISTORIC TWO-SEATER THUNDERBIRD

Introduced at Detroit in February 1954 and first available that October, the Ford Thunderbird was a stylish and well-equipped personal car offering a more sophisticated alternative to Chevrolets early Corvette. Low, sleek and sporty, the T-Bird included a powerful V-8 engine, available automatic transmission, removable hardtop and abundant standard and optional features. Confirming the Thunderbirds successful formula, 16,155 were sold for 1955, versus just 700 Corvettes. Mildly updated for 1956 and further refined for 1957, the Thunderbird saw sales rising to 21,380 cars for 1957, but it would be the last model year for the two-seat Thunderbird until 2002. Today, the original 1955-1957 Thunderbirds remain automotive and cultural icons, recently celebrated as part of a popular commemorative postage-stamp issue from the U.S. Postal Service.

Handsomely finished and retaining matching numbers, this 1957 Ford Thunderbird benefits from a comprehensive freshening performed in 2018 by Automotive Restorations, Inc. in Stratford, Connecticut. Further sorting and care was most recently provided by The Last Detail. Finished in factory-correct Raven Black, complemented by a Black convertible top and Red interior upholstery, this Thunderbird is further equipped with an ultra-rare and desirable porthole delete hardtop. The matching numbers, 245-HP 312 CI Thunderbird Special V-8 engine was professionally rebuilt and sends the power through a Ford-O-Matic 2-speed automatic transmission. An engine dress-up kit including chromed air-cleaner lid, Thunderbird scripted rocker covers and bright accents, adds further appeal. Other desirable features include power brakes, power steering, seatbelts and Town and Country AM radio. Detailed receipts totaling over $62,000 are included with the sale of the vehicle. Perennially collectible and enjoyable, this 1957 Ford Thunderbird is simply an excellent example of a true postwar milestone. Best of all, a recent test drive confirms it is a joy to drive, operating as it should without issue. Call us now to see it for yourself and make this 1957 Ford Thunderbird yours!
