Celebrating General Motors upcoming 50
th Anniversary, Oldsmobile named its entry-level Eighty-Eight model line the Golden Rockets for 1957. Adding to their appeal, styling was heavily revised, and Oldsmobiles renowned Rocket V-8 engine was upsized from 324 cubic inches to 370 cubes and 277 standard horsepower with 400 pounds-feet of torque available with just a tap of the accelerator pedal. For the first time since 1950, Oldsmobile offered a station wagon, more correctly three station wagons, called the Fiesta. All were 6-passenger, 4-door models, with two for the Golden Rocket 88 line in the form of a hardtop model and one with a more traditional pillared roof. The upmarket Super 88 line also included a hardtop Fiesta wagon. Both comfort and convenience were heightened again for 1957 with a wide array of standard and optional features delivering more of everything that made Oldsmobile GMs upscale engineering division.
Formerly under long-term ownership and storage in Colorado, this Oldsmobile 88 Fiesta station wagon is an excellent survivor of 5,052 pillared-roof Golden Anniversary 88 models produced for 1957. Over the past three years, the Fiesta has received major service work including an engine overhaul with a 0.030 overbore, re-sealing of the gas tank, a transmission-fluid flush, new brakes and shock absorbers, and a carburetor rebuild. Desirable upgrades include installation of an electric fuel pump and Pertronix electronic ignition system. The Ice Green and Allegheny Green two-tone paint finish remains exceptionally original, as does the two-tone green vinyl and cloth upholstery. Factory features and options include the automatic transmission, AM radio, and heater. Original rubber floor mats remain in place. Additional items include a lubrication receipt and door-jamb sticker from 1958 and a paint-code breakdown, plus a spare wheel/tire, roadside jack and lug wrench. Very nicely preserved and remaining mostly in OEM condition, this 1957 Oldsmobile Golden Rocket 88 Fiesta Station Wagon is a wonderful find, sure to please anyone who appreciates the irreplaceable look and feel of a highly original and never fully-restored automobile.
