From launch in late 1962, the second-generation Corvette Sting Ray was a massive leap forward in every respect. Its futuristic and almost otherworldly body design, penned by Peter Brock and guided to production reality by Larry Shinoda under GM design chief Bill Mitchell, remains a design landmark today. Corvette engineering director Zora Arkus-Duntov forcefully ensured the new Corvette was equipped with four-wheel independent suspension and a fast-growing list of available powertrain and race-intended options, with four-wheel disc brakes finally standard on the Corvette by 1965.
