1968 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28. British green/black deluxe interior. 302 cubic inch MO engine. M21, 4-speed. Power front disc brakes, console gauges, tic-toc-tach and rally wheels. Frame-off, photo-documented restoration of a California car. The Z/28 were proudly offering here was built during the first week of March 1968 in Van Nuys, California. It has been the subject of a photo-documented, frame-off restoration to a very high standard by a marque specialist. This is a true numbers matching example that has been completely decoded. In addition, its equipped with the Z21 trim package, D80 spoiler package, rear bumper guards, a 12 bolt, 3:73 posi-traction rear end. Even the rare factory smog system is in place! This is a correct, straight and magnificent example. Thoroughly inspected and completely detailed by TLD technicians, our Z/28 is ready for immediate use and enjoyment. MODEL HISTORY: The first-generation Camaro appeared on September 26, 1966 for the 1967 model year. It was Chevrolets answer to the Mustang from Ford in the pony car segment of the auto industry. Like the Mustang, the Camaro was available as a coupe or convertible and offered several engine and transmission combinations. The Z/28 option code was introduced in December 1966, but not mentioned in any sales literature and therefore unknown to most buyers. This is the primary reason for the very low production numbers of these high performance machines. The Z/28 option code required a Muncie 4-speed manual transmission mated to the high-revving 302 cubic inch engine. This engine was designed specifically to race in the Trans Am series, which required engines smaller the 305 cubic inches. In addition, these engines also had to be available to the car buying public. Advertised horsepower of this light and efficient engine was listed at 290. This figure is quite under-rated as Chevy wanted to keep the horsepower figure at less than 1hp per cubic inch for insurance and racing purposes. In reality, the actual peak horsepower for the 302 was closer to 360! Only a handful of changes were made for the 1968 cars. Astro ventilation was the new way to get more fresh air into the cabin. Notable cosmetic changes were front side marker lamps, a more pronounced front grill, a front spoiler, and divided rear tail lamps. First-generation Z/28 production totaled 28,103 units and of that, only 7,199 were built in 1968.
