PINNACLE OF EARLY '70S CADILLAC PRESENCE & LUXURY
LAST YEAR FOR 1967-70 DESIGN BEFORE 1971 RESTYLING
As one of the finest expressions of Bill Mitchell's tenure as head of GM Styling, the original 1967-70 Cadillac Fleetwood Eldorado design remains one of the crowning achievements of his career as Harley Earl's handpicked successor. Long, low, plush, and powerful, these sophisticated road cars exemplified the emerging "personal luxury" market segment when and remain historic as Cadillac's first-ever front-drive production model.
For 1970, the Eldorado exclusively featured the newly upsized 500 cubic-inch, 400-horsepower development of Cadillac's proprietary V-8 engine the largest automobile engine in America. Only a discreet '8.2 Litre' badge, placed to the left side of the Eldorado's redesigned grille, tastefully announced the new engine specification. New blade-style rear fenders and taillamps, plus many other design cues, delivered a fresh and athletic look. Buyers agreed, purchasing nearly 24,000 Eldorados for 1970 a year that included new all-time record production at Cadillac, achieved in spite of GM-wide labor issues.
Exceptionally original throughout, this wonderfully preserved 1970 Cadillac Fleetwood Eldorado is a documented two-owner car from new. Specially ordered from Cullerton Cadillac Co. by a resident of La Grange, Illinois on March 7, 1970, the Eldorado was assembled and sold just a few weeks later to the original owner on March 31, 1970. It was obviously a pride and joy of the original owner, who maintained and preserved his Eldorado in fine original order until April 30, 2007, when the second owner acquired it. Retaining the all original Patina Silver paint finish, this special Eldorado is now offered in collector-grade condition with just 26k original miles. Other outstanding features include the original Blue leather interior and Blue vinyl roof covering. Per the original Car Invoice from Cullerton Cadillac, the Eldorado?s other features and options included power brakes and steering, power windows, Soft Ray tinted glass, door guards, AM/FM Stereo radio, air conditioning, a 6-way power-adjustable front seat, power door locks, Twilight Sentinel, and more. Desirable upgrades include an updated, retro-appearing Custom Autosound digital stereo radio and newly fitted stainless steel dual exhaust system.
Exceptional documentation includes the original title, order form, dealer invoice, dealer MSRP copy, owner's manual, a radio manual, and a May 1970-dated letter from the Cadillac Chicago Zone manager to the original owner, plus the April 30, 2007-dated bill of sale from the original owner to the second owner. An exceptionally original and collector-grade example of one of the high points in the Cadillac Eldorado legacy, this beautifully preserved, low-mile example from 1970 is ready to own, collect, and show as desired.
