Although the new-for-1970 Dodge Challenger was one of the last entrants to the "pony car" club, it enjoyed strong success and reigns as one of the most popular American performance cars ever produced. Featuring clean, broad-shouldered styling, the Challenger could also accommodate the entire Chrysler engine range, while the aggressively wide rear suspension – borrowed from Chrysler's B-Body line – easily housed the wide low-profile tires that were available by 1970.

Offered in coupe and convertible form, the Challenger was a solid value priced from $2,851 for the standard 6-cylinder coupe. Performance fans could order the comprehensive R/T "Road and Track" package, a screaming buy at just $300. A wide array of 18 exterior colors was available, along with a no-cost rear "bumblebee" stripe for the R/T, or bodyside striping with "R/T" callouts. Power choices with the R/T package included the standard 383 CI V-8, with the 375-horsepower 440 Magnum, triple-carb 440 Six Pack, and 426 Street Hemi optional. Transmission choices included a heavy-duty 3-speed manual, New Process A-833 4-speed, and A-727 Torqueflite 3-speed automatic.

Immediately, the Challenger earned a formidable reputation on the street and in competition, where it competed in SCCA Trans-Am road racing and drag racing's hotly contested Pro Stock and Super Stock ranks. The Challenger's smooth bodylines also translated very well to fiberglass-bodied AA/Funny Cars.

Documented by two original copies of its corresponding Chrysler Corporation Car Production Broadcast Sheet (build sheet), the original window sticker/MSRP, and original dealer finance contract, this 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T coupe was delivered new to DiNapoli & Salicco Motor Sales in Beacon, New York. The original purchaser was nearby resident Theodore Evans, who financed the car on May 6, 1970. Features and options were many, beginning with the 375-horsepower U-Code 440 CI V-8 engine, D21 4-speed manual transmission, A33 Track Pak rear axle, and power brakes with front discs. Other options applied to this highly equipped Challenger R/T included the A01 Light Group, A04 Radio Group including a Music Master AM radio and power steering, the A05 Protection Group, A63 Moulding Group, C16 center console, J41 Pedal Dress-Up kit, and the J55 option including factory undercoating and hood insulation.
 
More recently, a top-quality restoration was performed. Post-restoration, the white padded vinyl roof covering was removed, and the white interior was switched to the current black upholstery, with the car’s "triple black" combination particularly attractive and rarely seen today.
