This 1970 Mercedes Benz 280SL is a rare and desirable model with a Dark Green exterior over a caramel Tan Interior. This is a well maintained, rust-free car that recently underwent a high quality, full detail. With only 79,000 original miles it still gleams with the presence of an elegant time machine that perfectly unwinds the clock to the early 1970s. The SLs feature both Hard and Soft Tops, both of which are in great condition on this car. The injected 2.8 Liter overhead cam, in-line 6 cylinder produces approximately 170-hp and starts and runs with a smooth flutter. A dub-sized wheel makes the steering fingertip light, and the pedal on the servo-assisted four-wheel disc brakes stops the car effortlessly. A feather touch on the Mercedes-built four-speed automatic transmission flicks it between gears, if you want to shift yourself, the best way to extract speed. With 60 mph passing in 8.6 seconds and stops from 70 mph in 233 feet, this SL proves that it was built modern enough to survive at today's traffic speeds. This particular car is also equipped with Air Conditioning and Power Steering which was optional equipment that year. The 1963-71 SL was dubbed the "pagoda" car because the optional detachable hardtop had a thin, slightly concave center panel bracketed on both sides by two thicker pillars. The design was suggested by Mercedes safety engineer Bla Barnyi to fortify the roof against a rollover, but it also proved handsome and svelte, especially when viewed head-on. Demand reflected the appeal of the pagoda: Mercedes sold 48,912 of this SL worldwide. Having just completed a through TLD inspection and detail, this fine automobile is now ready for its next show. Truly one of the best driving experiences in a classic car. Additional Images of this car can be found at http://photobucket.com/71MB280SL (copy and paste into your Browser)
