Soon after Porsches new 6-cylinder 911 entered production in September 1964, the famed engineers from Stuttgart set to work methodically improving and updating it to virtual perfection. While detail-oriented, these upgrades made the great original 911 design even better than before, culminating in the 2.2-liter models built from August 1969 to July 1971. While the 911 S and E carried higher power ratings, the 911T was a surprisingly strong performer in with outstanding acceleration and a top end approaching 130 mph. Just 2,545 examples of the 911T were produced in total for 1970 with the Targa body style, delivering open-air enjoyment with its removable roof panel and the safety of a built-in roll bar. The product of a freshly completed professional restoration and build to amazing standards of detail and quality, this 1970 Porsche 911T Targa is an exciting find for Porsche fans everywhere and one that will deliver an amazing all-around experience on the open road. Built with a clear vision of the ultimate 1970 Porsche 911T Targa, the current owner had the car dismantled and the body stripped to bare metal, rust-repaired, and carefully fitted with slightly flared all steel rear-quarter panels allowing wider wheels and tires. Following painstaking metal finishing and preparation, the bodyshell was totally repainted in Porsche Slate Grey (8601) two-stage paint, with flawless results. The removable Targa roof was rebuilt internally as well, for proper fit and finish. Custom touches include de-trimmed bumpers, plus an updated engine grille, new signal lights, a deeper S front air dam, added fog lights mounted to the front-bumper grilles, and sport-style rear bumper guards with deleted rubber strips.
The interior was fully restored and upgraded in keeping with the rest of the car, including installation of new reproduction Recaro sport seats featuring OEM Porsche vinyl and a new Porsche OEM dash board, complemented by 356-specification short-pile carpeting. New door panels include custom door cards and OEM Porsche armrests. A period-appearing radio includes Bluetooth connectivity and drives new speakers for additional entertainment as desired. A real wood shift knob, handsome Momo Prototipo steering wheel, and period key fob greet the driver, and a handsome set of Car Bone tailored floor mats protect the cars interior and front luggage compartment.
Mechanical systems were upgraded to match, with the Porsches engine fully rebuilt and uprated, with work including porting and polishing of the cylinder heads and installation of 911E-specification cams. Other highlights include upgraded Zenith carburetors, an electronic ignition system, correct new batteries, and stainless steel exhaust headers feeding a great-sounding Dansk Outlaw twin-outlet muffler. A desirable Porsche Type 915 5-speed transmission is rebuilt and delivers the vehicles newfound power easier shift action, thanks to its more logical dogleg-free shift pattern. Handling was totally upgraded to match, with the 911 riding on a fully adjustable Elephant Racing suspension system, suitable for street or track use, at a $14,000 installed cost. Rolling stock includes a set of Fuchs-style Maxilite wheels with ceramic-coated rims from Stoddard, shod by new period-style Pirelli tires and secured by Rennline wheel lugs and spacers.
