From introduction for 1963, Buick's personal-luxury Riviera served proudly as one of the most stylish postwar automobiles ever produced. Redesigned for 1971, the Riviera took the concept to new heights with a stunning new body design featuring a dramatic "boattail" rear treatment a styling flourish favored by GM styling chief Bill Mitchell and his deep appreciation of prewar automotive icons from Bugatti, Adler, and other European greats. While produced with its distinctive rear treatment essentially intact through 1973, The first cars for 1971 are the most sought-after by today's collectors for their purity of design with smaller chrome bumpers placed close to the body and clean bodysides without moldings. The 1971 Riviera also featured the Buick's last use of the Full-Flo ventilation system including handsome rear-deck air louvers.

While the Riviera was an already strong performer with Buick's proprietary 455 cubic-inch V-8 engine rated at 315 horsepower, the Riviera Gran Sport delivered a power boost to 330 factory-rated horsepower. Other Gran Sport-exclusive features included a chrome air cleaner, a specially calibrated Turbo-Hydramatic 400 automatic transmission, Heavy Duty suspension, a 3.42 limited slip differential, H78 x 15 bias-ply tires, and special 'Riviera GS' monograms to the front fenders and instrument panel.

This former California car was built during the first week of January, 1971 and features a Trim Tag-correct Code 65 Copper Mist paint finish a color choice exclusive to the top-of-the-line Rivera, accented by Code 684 optional Sandalwood vinyl upholstery. Ample power and performance is delivered by Buick's proprietary 455 CI V-8 engine, rated at 330 horsepower. Features and options include factory air conditioning, a nearly invisible radio antenna contained inside the windshield, and Buick's handsome chrome Road Wheels mounting new tires. A full service was performed recently and the Riviera's weatherstripping is new. Mileage is believe to be original and documents include the owner's and radio manuals, plus the dealer-issued Protect-O-Plate warranty card confirming the original sale of this Riviera GS to its first owner resident in Stockton, California.
