Without doubt, Volkswagens Type 1 "Beetle" was the most influential compact car to land on U.S. soil after WW II. Rooted in Germany's KdF-Wagen, with the "KdF" representing "Kraft durch Freude" or "Strength through Joy," the Beetle was the product of early Project 12 experiments at Ferdinand Porsches facilities, where engineers settled on a rear-engine layout and simple platform chassis. Countless revisions yielded 30 distinct prototypes by 1935. Eventually, the Series 38 design embodied the Beetle, much as we know it today. Produced from 1938 through 2003, the Volkswagen Type 1 Beetle was remarkably similar in concept to Henry Ford's Model T an affordable "peoples car" of attractive design, economical operation, and durable construction. Swift development brought a succession of careful updates throughout production and many derivative models. The Karmann-built Cabriolet remains a favorite among collectors and enthusiasts, imported to North America through 1979.

Sporting festive Yellow over Tan livery, this all-original 1979 Volkswagen Beetle Cabriolet is a fabulous example with under 24,382 miles from new. Powered by Volkswagen's renowned 1600cc air-cooled 'flat 4' engine delivering 48 factory-rated horsepower with electronic fuel injection and a 4-speed manual rear transaxle, this Cabriolet is exceptionally well optioned with factory air conditioning, a period Panasonic AM/FM radio, and factory heater. Factory shoulder belts enhance safety and a tool kit is included. The original VW Beetle offers an exceptionally fun and engaging classic with a unique driving experience, heightened by the open-air enjoyment offered by this highly equipped Cabriolet. Recently serviced, thoroughly reviewed, and detailed at The Last Detail, this final-year 1979 Volkswagen Beetle Cabriolet is a wonderful modern classic and a collector-grade example of one of the worlds most successful and influential automobiles of all time.
