Produced from 1979 through 1985, Fiats 2000 Spider succeeded the 124 Spider that was introduced in 1966. Throughout both generations, bodies were designed and built by Pininfarina, with styling cues for these attractive small sports cars derived from those of some of Ferraris top road cars of the 1960s, especially the 275/330 GTS. Power was delivered by Fiats excellent twin-cam 4-cylinder engines, initially displacing 1.5 liters and from 1979 on, a 2.0-liter unit shared with the popular Brava sedan. From 1975 through 1985, a slightly higher ride height and impact-type bumpers allowed the handsome Fiat to keep pace with regulatory demands in North America, where some 85 per cent of all Spiders were sold. For model years 1982-1985, these stylish and very enjoyable Italian sports cars were produced entirely by Pininfarina in Turin, Italy.
