DEFINITIVE 1980s AUTOMOTIVE ICON
Based on the immensely successful 'R107' SL launched in 1971, the Mercedes-Benz 380SL succeeded the 450SL/450SLC in 1981 for North America. Powered by a 3.8-liter V-8 engine equipped with single overhead camshafts per cylinder bank and Bosch fuel injection, the 380SL was re-equipped by September 1981 with a new all-aluminum small-bore, long-stroke engine of equal displacement, delivering significantly improved fuel economy with only a slight reduction in power. High-speed performance was upheld with a numerically-lower final-drive ratio. Produced through 1985, the 380SL garnered positive, even glowing, road-test reviews throughout its production run. Quite popular with the wealthiest and most demanding buyers, the 380SL was a virtual fixture on the top-rated TV shows and movies of the era.
This 1982 Mercedez-Benz 380SL roadster is resplendent in Astral Silver Metallic with a Black leather interior featuring custom-made sheepskin seat covers. Both a Black soft top and body-color auxiliary hardtop are included. Power is delivered by a fuel-injected 3.8-liter V-8 engine, upgraded for compatibility with ethanol-type fuels, mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission. Features and options include cruise control, power steering and brakes, central locking, electric windows and tinted glass, plus Michelin radial tires and OEM light-alloy wheels. The removable hardtop includes a rear-window defroster. Other highlights include an AM/FM cassette stereo, height-adjustable antenna, 2-speed windshield wipers with 5-second interval mist control, a tachometer, Quartz chronometer, a folding center armrest, front headrests, and adjustable front bucket seats. Exterior features include a driver's side mirror, halogen headlights and fog lamps. The trunk is carpeted in Slate Gray velour, color-coordinated with the interior carpeting. A tool kit and documentation accompanies this outstanding 380SL, including the original window sticker showing a total delivered price of $42,912 new. Exhaustive service history is also included.
