MODERN AND LUXURIOUS MERCEDES-BENZ PERFORMER
The flagship Mercedes-Benz S-Class sedan and coupe for much of the 1990s was internally designated 'W140' and offered along two wheelbase lengths the SE and longer SEL. Numerous powertrain combinations propelled the W140, including inline 6, V-8, and V-12 engines, paired with 5-speed manual or 4 and 5-speed automatic transmissions. Production commenced with the W140 Sedan in April 1991, followed in October 1992 by the W140 Coupe.
Designed under design director Bruno Sacco with the exterior of the Sedan and Coupe both designed by Olivier Boulay, the W140 series remains affectionately known as "Der Kathedral" in Germany, given its grand proportions and top-of-the-line status in the Mercedes-Benz model hierarchy. The influence of the W140 models remain profound today, with innovations including double-pane glass, power-assisted closing (soft close) for the doors and trunk, parking marker bars that lifted from the rear when parking (later replaced by electronic parking assistance) and a heating system that continued to emit warm air as desired after the engine was turned off.
Offered with one prior owner from new to May 2023, this U.S. specification 1992 Mercedes-Benz 600 SEL Sedan was built during November 1991. Simply resplendent in its all-original Black paint finish over Black leather upholstery, it features abundant power from its M120 6.0L V-12 powerplant, factory-rated at 389 brake horsepower and paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission. Factory-original features and options are numerous as expected, including an electric glass sunroof, paintwork preservation, rear level control suspension, front airbags, a folding front armrest with tray, orthopedic front seat backrests, an electric rear roller blind, anti-theft system, front and rear air conditioning, heat-insulating glass, front and rear heated seats, and more. Most recently, new tires were fitted, plus an updated Bluetooth-capable radio. Service and detailing make this modern Mercedes-Benz legend ready for continued use and enjoyment as desired.
