Steeped in BMWs rich, competition-flavored M Motorsport heritage, the 2003 E39-generation BMW 540i M Sport features an Autobahn-worthy, electronically-limited 155-mph top speed with its 290-HP 4.4-litre V-8 engine delivering 324 pounds-feet of torque at just 3,600 RPM. For the 2003 edition, BMWs new Sport Package included front and rear spoilers, black side moldings, an M-type handling suspension, and appearance items including a black roof liner, M-type footrest, 18-inch M-Par wheels and visible exhaust pipes, plus Titanium-trimmed instruments. The 540i featured a standard moonroof and Xenon high-intensity-discharge headlights. The highly inviting wood-trimmed interior offered seating for up to five occupants, featuring rich leather upholstery, a 10-way power adjustment for the drivers seat, and a huge array of further comfort and convenience amenities including rain-sensing wipers, dual-mode automatic air-conditioning, remote keyless entry, 10-speaker audio with CD player, power tilt/telescopic steering column, heated power mirrors, and security alarm. Topping the regular 5-Series lineup, the 540i M Sport has an optional six-speed manual transmission. Safety features included airbags, ABS brakes, traction control, and BMWs Dynamic Stability Control system. BMW managed to blend big doses of both sport and luxury into the 540i and its premium M Sport counterpart. Only 1,265 540i M-Sport six-speed examples were produced making them significantly rarer than the M5. As expected, these renowned road machines deliver big doses of performance and a unique driving experience that make them highly sought-after as modern classics by knowledgeable enthusiasts.
Stunning in Tuxedo Black over an outstanding black leather interior with M accents and rich woodgrain trim, this 2003 BMW 540i M Sport Sedan was factory-equipped with the most desirable six-speed manual transmission for an exceptional drive above and beyond lesser sport sedans of similar vintage. It has clearly been pampered and well-maintained from new, and with less than 2,200 miles of use indicated on the odometer, it remains virtually impeccable throughout. The original tool kit, factory books and manuals, and window sticker accompany the car at auction. Certainly, this vehicle presents a rare and attractive opportunity to acquire one of the very best of these potent driving machines.
